Revolution

Meaning is a mind’s way of mapping the terrain of the future. – Howard Bloom

In 1967 tens of thousands of people converged on the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood in San Francisco. This unprecedented gathering of young people was the full blossoming of the 1960’s counter-culture movement. As the summer wound down and the makeshift community dispersed to their various schools and endeavors, our country was pollinated with the seeds of cultural and political change. These seeds took root in the fashion, music, and attitudes of the day. And like all seeds, they changed the soil, fertilizing our culture – and us – forever.

However, for those of us who were not there we can only think back fondly on an experience we missed and wonder what happened to the values and social utopia that were in store for us?

While the hippies were fantasizing on behalf of the collective good, they lacked the attitude, the technology and the skills to materialize their dreams. They turned on. They tuned in. But then they dropped out. Or did they?

Something remained from the hippie revolution. Some fundamental idea continued on, stretching forward in time, and winding itself into the stories of our culture and the DNA of our shared history. John Lennon sings it into us every time we hear Imagine. It’s the exciting mythology of human love and community on a cultural scale. It’s the feeling that anything is possible. The cultural idea that together, we can change the world; We can dream bigger and accomplish things that would have seemed impossible only decades before.

And we will. We’ve grown up a lot since the naive idealism of the 60’s. We’ve stretched and expanded our competency in building businesses, amassing communities, broadcasting messages and materializing dreams.

We’ve grown out of our naivete. And we’re guided by true wisdom. The wisdom that separates all virtuosos from their talented peers – decades of persistence and the wisdom that comes from racked up failures. We’ve learned from the failure of the original hippie revolution. Then the failure of Reaganomics. The failure of companies to look out for future generations. The failure of those same companies to safeguard the planet. The failure of detrimental self-serving business practices. Of failed or failing government policies. Of dishonesty and myopia. Of overspending. Of dumbing people down. Of corporate greed. And of failing economies.

These failures are all part of humanity’s endless evolutionary spiral upward toward increasingly successful forms of life and society. Beneath the turmoil of our latest economic disasters a fundamental reorganization of business was born on a global scale. From solo entrepreneurs to multinational corporations, we are organizing again towards greater visions than even the starry-eyed hippies dreamt up. And our dreams are more specific. Which means they are more achievable. More attainable. And we have both the attitude and the tools to achieve them.

For the first time in the history of life, we’ve wired up our global nervous system to allow for the rapid spreading of messages. And the messages we’ve got – the highest quality messages in the history of life – improve with each passing month. As does our ability to achieve them. The collective search engine of humanity is Googling how to create the best future possible. Then, through us, it’s testing the results, throwing out what doesn’t work and refining what does.

We’ve been updating and upgrading our ideas for a long time. And right now, as the new decade dawns, and Spiral Entrepreneurs emerge everywhere, we have stepped into a new, heroic motto: TURN ON, TUNE IN, TAKE ACTION.

Are you ready?

TURN ON to your passion.
TUNE IN to the best possible future for yourself and all humanity.
TAKE ACTION to bring that future to life. On your own. And together. With the rest of us.
